Yogic life styles of Indians

S.N. Dubey — K.S.Saket P.G. College, Faizabad.

India has a glorious history of Yoga. It is a land of saints and seers, gurus, yogis, ashrams, and seats of learning. Our ancestors have contributed towards the welfare of mankind. Patanjale’s Yoga Sutras, Tulsidas’s Ramcharit Manas, Kabir’s and Rahim’s couplets, Vidur Neeti, Bhartihari’s Neetishatakam etc., have guided the people of India to excel and live a beautiful life. Managing psychological disorders is the main concern of psychologists. The citations from our literature, religion and cultural heritage guide us and pave the way to overcome distress. This paper presents an overview of yogic practices and lifestyles as described in our literature, stories, rituals, religion, culture etc., along with suitable examples and their implications for Indians.
