There has been substantial research on stress-wellbeing relationship from the western perspective. Selye talked about General Adaptive Syndrome (GAS) and Taylor gave four models to explain the relationship between stress and illness in terms of direct route, interactive route, health behavior route, and illness behavior route. In the Indian context, stress-wellbeing relationship is well explained in ayurveda, but the importance of triguna as a mediating variable was totally neglected. From our perspective, the three gunas will have different impact in stress-wellbeing relationship in terms of direction and amount of association, so the crux of the present paper is to generate a theoretical model on stress-wellbeing relationship by considering the western and Indian perspectives.
