Adding reading material from the
consciousness-centred Indian traditions
to mainstream psychology courses
last revision: 31 December 1969
Introduction
This page is meant for teachers and students of Psychology who are interested in spirituality and yoga. It suggests reading material from the consciousness-centred Indian knowledge systems regarding the subjects covered in mainstream Psychology.
To this end we have listed on the left a few common introductory textbooks of Psychology. When you click on one of these titles, the contents of the corresponding book will appear below.
On the right we have listed books and collections of articles which cover the same ground as the mainstream texts on the left, but which are based on the very different understanding of reality, knowledge and the aim of life that we find in the various Indian traditions. We have included, amongst others, texts based on Vedanta, Buddhism, Samkhya, Sufism and Integral Yoga. Wherever possible, we have provided short summaries of the texts as well as links to where they are available.
This page is intended as an ongoing community project, and suggestions for additional texts are welcome! They may be sent to concordance[@]ipi.org.in .
