Lalan-palan: A psycho-spiritual experience for the Indian mother
Anjali
The concept of lalan-palan, a natural process of caring and nurturing a child, is deeply rooted in Indian folk traditions and shaped by classical culture like most folkways tend to be. It includes certain typical mental constructs and behaviours of Indian mothers. Motherhood for Indian women tends to be a psycho-spiritual phenomenon. A mother symbolizes Mother Earth, Mother Nature and the Mother Goddess. The present endeavour is an attempt to investigate how folkways, beliefs and traditions shape experiences and behaviour of the Indian mother.
