Role of yamas and niyamas in shaping the attitudes towards environement

An attempt is made in the present paper to highlight the role of Yamas and Niyamas in shaping attitudes towards the environment. The contemporary environmental crisis is basically embedded in consumeristic attitudes. The Yamas and Niyamas described in the Yogasutra could be used as a remedy towards changing the attitudes of the common man towards his surroundings. The following themes are discussed in the paper: 1.) The modern Environmental Crisis - As a result of attitude; 2.) The Yamas and Niyamas of the Patanjala Yogasutra; 3.) Description and their role explained, and; 4.) Conclusion.
